Currently… (tag)

So back in May, Jamie from the Perpetual Page-Turner did a post called “Currently…“, in the style of those Facebook and blog circulars that ask you what you’re doing currently in various categories. It wasn’t really a tag, but I’m shamelessly stealing it because it’s great and once I start reading these things I can’t help but think of my own answers. I took out a few questions specific to Jamie, but couldn’t think of any to add. Feel free to steal it and continue transforming it!

Currently…

Currently reading: Children of Lucifer: The Origins of Modern Religious Satanism by Ruben van Luijk, and the Encyclopedia Shatnerica.

Vincent Price Wikipedia

Currently listening to on audiobook: The Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collectionread by Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone. It is excellent.
Currently listening to: It’s been Vessels by Starset for a while — Starset is my favorite band and I’ve gotten to see them in concert twice this year — but I need a new music fix. Suggestions?
Currently eating: I just had an excellent lunch of Chef Boyardee pasta and cookies.
Currently drinking: Mott’s apple white grape juice. I graduated myself from CapriSuns.
Currently wearing: A work t-shirt and brown pants.
Currently watching: I’ve just started Pushing Daisies! I had some vague misconception about this show, but turns out it’s an adorable but serious dramedy about a pie baker who can bring dead people back to life (for no longer than a minute). There’s lots of great dialogue and it’s perfect for Fall, even after Halloween.
Currently opened tabs: Email, Facebook, Habitica, Trello, WordPress, Google Maps, and a YouTube window where I was trying to find some old William Shatner clips because reasons.

Currently texting: Some recent missives I have sent to my boyfriend, presented in their entirety: “Being staked out by Autons but I consider that a positive.” “The great art of life is sensation, to feel that we exist, even in pain.” “I met a pupper in a sweater,” and “Bathybius haeckeli!”
Currently on my library holds list: My list hovers around 15 titles, but some current highlights are Darth Vader Vol. 4 (awesome series), The Ape That Spoke: Language and the Evolution of the Human Mind by John McCrone (an older title by the person who wrote that book on irrationality I loved so much), and The Geek Feminist Revolution by Kameron Hurley (for a possible Is This Feminist? post).
Currently on my to-buy list: Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds by Mike JohnsonIt’s the second volume of a comic crossover and the first volume was unbelievably good y’all.

General Chang as a yellow lantern
General Chang is a yellow lantern you guys.

Currently waiting to be released: Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress by Steven Pinker. Steven Pinker books are amazing.
Currently adding to my Goodreads TBR list: Most recently The Mezzanine by Nicholas Baker. It’s a novella that takes place entirely on a man’s ride up an escalator. I think I found it recommended on a Book Riot list and thought it looked really interesting.
Currently recommending: Am I ever not recommending Airman?
Currently talking about on the blog: It’s about to be Satanism, because I’m reading that Children of Lucifer book and read a few other things that came up in relation to it. I’ve been waiting for a book like this for a long time y’all, stay tuned!
Currently coveting: Furniture for my new apartment! I’ve got my eye on this Target desk-slash-bookshelf… desk slash bookshelfCurrently loving: Free time! Not being in grad school is the best!
Currently learning: I’m interested in learning literary criticism in a more formal way — you know, theory and approaches and that kind of thing, English degree stuff. I’m not sure how to do it yet because the online course sites I’ve looked at are heavily slanted toward teaching coding and graphic design, I haven’t seen any about the humanities. I’m compiling a book list for myself though.
Currently dreaming of: If we’re talking literal dreams, alien invasions and grocery shopping. Otherwise, I’m thinking about exotic vacations and library school.
Currently looking forward to: Seeing Thor: Ragnarok! I see all the superhero movies, but my friends are absolutely raving about this one.
Currently craving: Fried chicken. I’m trying to be thrifty and not buy fast food because of the many moving expenses, but my god I want some fried chicken.
Currently procrastinating: Reading Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire. I just know it’s gonna be intense and I’m scart.
Currently griping about: The weather in Georgia. First it’s hot until October, then suddenly it’s fall, then suddenly it’s winter, and now we’re back to 80 degrees. I would like to stop being hot and damp please.
Currently celebrating: New apartmeeeeent
Currently feeling: Tired. I’m writing this at the end of a long work week and I’m ready for a break!

  1. Even though this post is a few weeks old, I might as well play.
Currently reading – all the comics I’m catching up on.
Currently listening to – some nerdy podcasts I’m catching up on.
Currently eating – About to have a snack – considering boiling up some pasta of some sort
currently drinking – water. Just finished reading said comics while using the elliptical for the better part of an hour, so I’m a bit thirsty from sweat.
Currently wearing – my nanowrimo shirt.
Currently watching – Haven’t decided yet. I finally just finished the Clone Wars cartoon for the first time (that finale was emotionally brutal and while the show doesn’t fix the prequel trilogy, it’s good enough to help justify its existence). I haven’t decided what I’m going to catch up on next.
Currently open tabs: At any given time, i have between 30 and 70 tabs open at once. Not going to even bother going through them all.
Currently texting – A friend, trying to figure out when we’ll hang out next
Currently on my library holds list – I usually buy books instead of borrowing them, so I guss I’ll list some of the books I hope to buy soon instead – Star Wars: Phasma, Star Wars: Thrawn, and of course Magic Triumphs when it releases next year.
And I guess I just answered the next question.
Currently waiting to be released – besides the normal comic releases every Wednesday and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the book I mentioned earlier.
Currently adding to my goodreads TBR list – I usually don’t. I just add books that I’ve read every few months or so, adding any reviews I’ve posted on my blog.
Currently recommending – All-New Wolverine (my favourite X-Men character, and a fantastic series), Detective Comics (basically a Batman team book) and pretty much all the Star Wars comics.
Currently talking about on this blog – I’m both talking about nanowrimo while it’s on, and I’m in the middle of an X-Men movie blogathon (watching all the live action X-Men movies in order of release). I’ve got 5 to go, and then I’ll probably do another movie marathon in a couple of months.
Currently coveting – the PS4 Pro, now that I’ve got a 4k TV. Most likely not getting it this year though.
Currently loving – the 4k TV I bought last week.
Currently learning – how to swim butterfly. I actually completed my first 50m butterfly on my 30th birthday, although it still needs some work on tightening up the dolphin kick.
Currently dreaming of – buying a house. I have the down payment – I just need a better job to get the mortgage.
Currently looking forward to – Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Currently craving – food. Again, I’m thinking Pasta
Currently procrastinating – by commenting on this blog post.
Currently griping about – how I haven’t been able to find a new job yet, and that what I studied in college (journalism) seems to be almost useless for finding a job around here.
Currently celebrating – I passed my kung-fu grading this past Saturday and upgraded to the next belt colour. I’m still very new (just the yellow belt), but it’s fun and I feel like it’s helping me write better action scenes.
Currently feeling – hungry. Time to eat that pasta now.

  2. I’m not really an audiobook person, because I have a lot more trouble processing the spoken word than the written one, but that one sounds so awesome that I may have to look into it!

That desk/shelf *is* pretty cool! Wish I had room for more furniture…

“Thor: Ragnarok” was wonderful! If I had one complaint, it’d be that I felt they had changed Thor’s characterization a bit, but I just deleted the rest of what I had to say about that in case it seemed spoilery and in case you still haven’t gotten to the movie yet. 😉 I kinda wish the marketing department would have held off on telling us about a certain other character’s involvement, though. The initial reveal was obviously supposed to be a big surprise.

    1. I have to have a really good narrator for an audiobook, and I like a book where I don’t have to struggle to understand it for the same reason. The Edgar Allan Poe was good, I find that older writing styles often flow a bit better and are more precise. (Provided they’re recent enough for vocabulary to be the same.)

Aaaaah I still haven’t seen Thor! I was going to go Tuesday but got sick instead. Hopefully next week.
