I must apologize for the one lonely post this week. I think this is the first week in a year that I’ve only posted once, but I’m not going back to check… I even had one or two basically-ready-to-go things I could’ve posted, but didn’t even have the time/energy to look them up and post them this week, if that tells you anything about my mental state.
But I graduated, and it was awesome and momentous and yep, I’m very proud. Dr. Lawrence DeLucas, a man with five degrees who went into space in 1992 to conduct crystal-growth experiments, gave our commencement address. I did not expect to be at all motivated by the commencement address, but with him, I totally was. He made Star Trek references and told us to dream big. When he was finished, the president of the university said “You made a couple of movie references, so let me just say: Live long and prosper, may the force be with you, and you have the right stuff.” Since I was in the front row and we walked out right after the stage party, I ran up to Dr. DeLucas and shook his hand and thanked him for coming. I think I’m as proud of that as I am of graduating, because usually I’d want to and not be able to make myself do it and regret it forever. It was a good day. Lastly, the gentleman pictured here was my first history professor in community college before I transferred. I referred to him as “Professor Awesome,” and changed my major from English to History because of his classes, and have been amazingly happy with that decision ever since. I didn’t have a whole lot of family at graduation, but he was there, and it really meant a lot to me.
(And, of course: Thank you to my family! I didn’t think my sister would be back from college in time to attend, but she was, so that was great and everyone in my immediate family was able to be there. Also, thank you to my mom and my brother, who were always generous in giving short-term loans when I couldn’t scrape tuition together in time for any given semester. Because of them, I’m graduating with no debt whatsoever.)
In other news, pre-graduation, I took the GRE and got an amazingly good score, if I do say so myself. I’m still waiting on the essay results, it’s only been three days, but I feel good about them. That was Wednesday morning, and took a huge weight off. Unfortunately, it’s a long story but Wednesday night I had to break up a dog fight, take a dog to the vet, and spend about two hours (altogether) sopping blood off of things. It looked worse than it was, the dog’s fine, but good golly. It looked like I’d murdered somebody and it was extremely stressful. The rest of the crazy things that happened this week can go unmentioned after that. By graduation everything was fine, and I’m spending the weekend celebrating with friends!
Coming Up:
At long last, I should finally have some free time again. I’m looking forward to catching up on all your blogs, writing, doing some end-of-year wrap-ups, and announcing new projects in January. This week, Monday should have a review or a writing-related post, Wednesday is Ms. Marvel day, and Friday will feature the first of several posts about my senior thesis content.
Very awesome news indeed! Congratulations. 🙂

Congratulations on graduating, and no need to apologize for fewer blog posts when you most likely had a busy week.

Heh, thanks! (I think I was almost apologizing to the blog itself, but I appreciate the understanding. I always feel bad when I keep saying “I’ll totally post more this week!” and never do.)
